ESRD comments on surprize inspection at Guzoo

Thursday, March 5, 2015 Drumheller Online

Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) has commented on this week's surprize inspection at the Guzoo Animal Farm.  On March 2, a convoy of vehicles from various agencies including Fish and Wildlife, Alberta Health Services and federal inspectors pulled into the Guzoo and more than a dozen officers lead an inspection of the facility.

ESRD information officer, Jamie Hanlon told 99.5 Drum FM it was a routine inspection. "We have been proactive in inspecting that facility and working to help insure that issues identified with the zoo's operations are resolved."

He explained they are still assessing the findings of the inspection, and he can not reveal results at this time. Hanlon added there was a similar investigation last fall. The Guzoo's permit renewal is scheduled for April 1.

April 2nd update: Rabbit Advocacy has been advised that Lynn Gustafson, owner and operator of GuZoo, has not been given the usual one year renewal permit, but has rather been given an ultimatum of 30 days to fix the deficiencies and general lack of compliance with provincial zoo standards. If after 30 days Guzoo has not become compliant, the decommissioning of the zoo will begin. Let’s hope this roadside hellhole will be shut down permanently.
