Tiger dies in Guzoo Animal Farm

August 28, 2014 Edmonton, AB, Canada / iNews880

A controversial zoo in southern Alberta is getting cagey over the recent death of an endangered animal. Tee the tiger passed away earlier this month at the Guzoo Animal Farm, and while not illegal, was cremated before an official inspection was made.

While a spokesperson from the zoo says the tiger died healthy at 18-years-old, Stephanie Belland of the Voice For Animals Humane Society says they’ve heard that’s not the case.

“We have no idea what happened really. The source tells us that there- she was exhibiting signs of illness and that proper veterinary care wasn’t provided,” says Belland.

The Guzoo Animal Farm has been in past spotlight for other concerns regarding animal safety and well-being. “The permit for the Guzoo was revoked in 2011 after there was an official CAZA inspection, but then the owners of Guzoo applied for a judicial review and the permit was very quietly, completely reissued,” says Belland.

Comment: This is a hell on earth for the animals kept captive at this facility. There has been plenty of documentation regarding the filth, the lack of husbandry, care and compassion for the animals, the unsuitable and barren housing environments, public safety hazards, and an overall disinterest by Gustafson to provide the Five Freedoms of animal welfare.
